Helping people feel better is my goal.

Hello, I'm Audra.  Thanks for taking a few moments to stop by the website to learn a little more about me and Hawk's Nest Counseling.    I had a dream to open a counseling center on a farm so we've been renovating the property and making that dream a reality since 2019.  In addition to counseling, my family and I live on Hawk's Nest Farm where we raise animals, grow food and connect with nature. The farm setting allows me to incorporate the tranquility of nature into our counseling sessions. Clients experience a unique counseling setting in a serene, natural environment. If appropriate, we may talk through our sessions while visiting with the dwarf goats, my therapy dog  Lugz, chickens, donkeys, mini-pigs, cows or even just talking while enjoying the calmness of the 11 acres of nature.

A little about the details...I earned a Bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University in Psychology, a Master's degree in School Counseling from Florida Gulf Coast University and a Specialist degree in Counseling from the University of West Alabama.  I am a fully licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia.  I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), and a Certified Professional Counseling Supervisor (CPCS.)  I have worked in education since 1996 at both the elementary and middle school levels,  20 of those years have been in counseling.  My theoretical approach is behavior based typically incorporating Cognitive Behavioral and Acceptance and Commitment therapies.  I have found a lot of success teaching clients about the connection between our thoughts and actions.  I use written exposure therapy for clients who are struggling with trauma and for couples I incorporate the Gottman Method for marriage counseling.  Communication can be hard, learning new techniques can be very helpful in reaching your goals and feeling better.

I work with all age clients and have an expertise in adolescents, adjustment disorder, anxiety, parenting and school related conflict.
